Our website address is: https://www.dependless.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Google reCaptcha

To prevent computers from filling in our web forms, we are using Google’s reCaptcha service. With this service Google checks the following data to determine if the input is coming from a human or computer: IP address of the terminal device, reCaptcha enabled web page being accessed, date and display time (duration), browser and operating system used, Google account details (if you are logged in via Google), mouse movements within the reCaptcha areas, and image identification tasks. We have a legitimate interest in having this data processed in order to ensure the security of our web site and to protect us against automated input and cyber attacks.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

All personal data in course of our www.dependless.com services will be processed exclusively within the European Union.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained seven years. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your subscription data will be stored until the end of your subscription and afterwards until the end of applicable legal retention periods (seven years from the end of the relevant business year).

Otherwise, we delete your personal data as soon as the purpose for which we have collected and processed the data ceases to apply. Beyond this point in time, data is only stored if this is required by the laws, regulations or other legal provisions of the European Union or of a member state of the European Union to which we are subject.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You have the right to information, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing of your personal data, as well as the right to data portability.

You also have the right to withdraw your previously given consent to the processing of your personal data. The lawfulness of the processing of personal data up to the time of your withdrawal will remain unaffected by the withdrawal.

You further have the right to object to the processing of your personal data for direct mailing purposes. If you do so, your personal data will no longer be processed for direct mailing purposes.

Should you have reason to assume that the processing of your data might violate data protection laws or that your right to data privacy has been otherwise violated, you have the right to appeal to the supervisory authority.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your data

We do not sell, rent or lease any personal data.

Personal data shall be subject to additional safeguards to ensure this data is processed securely. For example, we work hard to ensure data is encrypted when in transit and storage, and access to this data will be strictly limited to a minimum number of individuals and subject to confidentiality commitments.

We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Policy. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to any of our websites; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access. When possible, encryption is used, both in transit and storage. Access controls within the organisation limit who may access information.
